google reviews“In our experience Workhorse has some of the best tech support around. Every problem we have had on our press, some self-inflicted, over the last 20 years they have patiently helped us through. We bought our dryer from them about 4 years ago and are about to get a new Workhorse Sabre press. We have been very happy customers.”

Why Is It Possible To Get Better Quality Prints On An Automatic Press?

There are several factors that contribute to an automatic press often times being able to produce higher quality prints.  Let’s take a look at these factors.

Consistency: Automatic presses can maintain consistent / repeatable squeegee and floodbar pressures, angles, and speeds across multiple prints.  Automatic presses apply uniform pressure across the print surface. This consistency ensures even ink distribution, leading to sharper and more precise prints.

Accurate Indexing: Every platen aligns precisely under each screen for every print cycle, ensuring consistent image placement and registration.

Precision: Automatic presses offer precise control on settings such as off-contact, print/flood speed, flash times and registration.  They have precise registration systems that maintain alignment of colors, reducing the risk of misprints and ensuring multi-color prints are sharp and detailed.

Repetition Accuracy: Automatic presses are designed for high-volume production, ensuring that each print is identical to the next. This is particularly important for maintaining quality in large runs.

Speed Control: Automatic presses are faster than manuals, which can be beneficial when using inks that need to flash cure quickly, or when using water-based inks where time on press can be critical.  The speed at which the press operates can be consistently regulated, reducing variations that might occur with manual presses.

Reduced Human Error: By automating various aspects of the printing process, the potential for human error is minimized. This includes consistent loading and unloading of materials, as well as precise ink application.  Since the machine does most of the work, there’s less chance of human error or physical fatigue, both of which can affect print quality.

Ideas for Summer Merch

Summer offers many opportunities for new designs and themes for your print shop. Letting your customers know you have new ideas and options for them to present to their clientele increases your value and goodwill. Which of the options below resonate with you?

What’s Your Sign?

August and September birthdays fall under the astrological signs of Leo (the lion), Virgo (maiden or goddess), and Libra (the scales). Designs incorporating these elements are always popular with consumers.

Birthday Flowers & Stones

August birthdays can be represented by the poppy or gladiolus, but goldenrod and salvia are also associated with the month. Peridot, an olive or lime-green stone, as well as spinel, which ranges in color from pink to violet, are birthstones for the month.

The aster (a gorgeous flower that migrating butterflies gravitate to) and morning glories are September’s flowers. The beautiful, blue sapphire is the birthstone for September.

To celebrate August or September babies, consider offering a design that includes both the flower and stone of the month.

Celebrate Celebrities

Keeping in mind whether you want to pursue licensing or just create designs with a nod toward these famous faces, you can tie in some of the famous people born in August and September with prints related to what they are known for. Here are some concepts:

August:

  • Neil Armstrong, Orville Wright – space travel, outer space, flying
  • Louis Armstrong, Jerry Garcia – music, psychedelic prints
  • Lucille Ball – comedy, classic TV, 1950s
  • Coco Chanel – fashion

In addition, several former United States presidents were born in August, including Benjamin Harrison, Herbert Hoover, Lyndon B. Johnson, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. With this in mind, as well as their year-round popularity, patriotic designs are always in style.

September:

  • Lauren Bacall, Greta Garbo – fashion, classic movies, 1940s
  • Michael Faraday – science
  • Jim Henson – puppets (they can “say” funny things we humans can’t… or shouldn’t)
  • Queen Elizabeth I – British, royalty
  • Authors of note born in the month of September include Roald Dahl (author of, among other works, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach), mystery writer extraordinaire Agatha Christie, and Shel Silverstein (who authored children’s books and wrote Johnny Cash’s smash hit “A Boy Named Sue”. There are several design options riffing off this information, including someone relaxing with a good book with a summer sunset in the distance or a guitar player on stage seen from behind with the audience cheering.

When you consider the multitude of possibilities, the above represent just a few ideas to mark the summer season. Offering new designs based on these concepts, or even just sharing with your marketing lists events and facts that are unique to each month in the calendar, can help you add value and increase your business through new orders from existing customers. We hope you have a fantastic summer!
